8th Science Project- Roller Coasters

Roller Coaster Project

Mrs.Gallagher's 8th grade class has been working on a project for Physical Science. They were required to build a roller coaster; they were only given four class periods to construct it. Some things the kids used to make the roller coasters were popsicle sticks, cardboard, toilet paper and paper towel rolls, wire, plastic cars tracks, plastic tubing, glue, and tape. The purpose of the activity was, "as a final project for our motion, forces and energy book, using all of these concepts to create the roller coasters." The outcome of their project was some neat roller coasters that had three hills and other features were also required. Students enjoyed creating their coasters and used the physical sciences ideas of motion, forces and energy while doing them. Mrs.Gallagher comments," the 8th graders really enjoyed this project and worked well in groups to complete their roller coasters.
