Mrs. Bremer's New Teacher Interview By Elaina C

"My husband grew up here and wanted to be back here," says Mrs. Bremer who, with her husband Kurt, now lives in Moville. She is a new kindergarten teacher here at Woodbury Central.

One of Mrs. Bremer's goals is to stay up-to-date with the best and most current educational practices at the early childhood level; in addition, she plans to complete her Master's degree in education from the University of Northern Iowa by the end of next summer.

Mrs. Bremer keeps ahead of her students and her week with thorough planning and organized lesson plans. "With 5-year-olds, you have to be organized," she explains with a smile. "I have lots of files and piles, but I can understand them all."

Mrs. Bremer is most satisfied with her job when children look up at her with sparkles in their eyes because she knows that they have just done or understood something for the first time. The toughest part of her job is to see a child struggle, she says.

Mrs. Bremer grew up in Ackley, another small town in Iowa; she earned BA degrees from UNI in Elementary Education as well as in Early Childhood Development. Previously, she taught kindergarten at the Solfax-Mingo School District, and then substitute-taught at WC and surrounding area schools. She says that she is "very happy" to be here. "It means a lot to me to be an active part of the community I live in and therefore, WC is where I wanted to be," she says.

She values faith, family, and friends, likes to attend WC football games and describes herself as happy, dependable, and "very blessed."

Mrs. Bremer is currently reading a book called "Joyful Learning in Kindergarten" which is about "guided learning." A big James Patterson fan, the last book she read of his was "The Beach House."
